What is this technique?

Technique to escape a rear choke. As taught by Yehouda Avikzar — 10th Dan, son of Eli Avikzar (the world's first Krav Maga black belt), this technique is part of the authentic Avikzar System curriculum, transmitted from Imi Lichtenfeld himself.

Why it works

This technique follows the core principles of authentic Krav Maga: simultaneous defense and attack, use of natural body mechanics, targeting vulnerable points, and effectiveness under real stress conditions. Unlike commercial Krav Maga adaptations, the Avikzar System preserves the original effectiveness Imi developed for the IDF.

5 steps to master it

1. Adopt the fighting stance: balance, weight distribution, hand position.
2. Read the threat: distance, intent, and angle of attack.
3. Initiate movement: redirect or absorb the incoming force.
4. Counter-attack immediately: defense alone is never enough.
5. Reposition or escape: never stay in the danger zone.

Common mistakes

• Telegraphing your movement before execution.
• Focusing on defense without immediate counter-attack.
• Staying in range after the technique is complete.
• Practicing only at slow speed without stress drills.

How to train it

Begin with slow repetitions to engrain the body mechanics. Progress to medium-speed reps, then add stress (fatigue, noise, surprise). Final training under realistic conditions: dimmed light, multiple attackers, confined space. The Avikzar Academy program guides you through all these stages with video feedback from certified coaches.
