How to control your flight reflex?
The flight reflex is the 1st survival option after evaluation. It isn't willpower-controlled, but context-evaluated: if flight is safe, you flee. If dangerous (leaving child behind, etc), you fight.
Why it happens — the mechanism
The brain evaluates flight distance, number of attackers, terrain, presence of loved ones to protect. All in under 400ms. The flight reflex isn't binary — it's a gradient (fight-flight-freeze). You can start fighting then switch to flight when opportunity arises.
How the Avikzar System answers it
Yehouda teaches the 'transition phase': how to strike 1-2 times to create an opening, then flee to the exit. Not an MMA fight. A survival fight where fleeing is the final goal.
Yehouda Avikzar (10th Dan) — Freezing isn't your fault — it's your biology. But not training after experiencing one is your responsibility.
