How to develop a defense reflex?

A defense reflex develops through motor repetition anchored in the cerebellum via 1,000 to 10,000 reps under stress variations. The goal: shift from 'knowing' (cortex) to 'doing' (cerebellum) automatic.

Why it happens — the mechanism

Motor learning theory (Fitts & Posner 1967): 3 stages — cognitive (think each move), associative (correct), autonomous (do without thinking). Autonomous stage requires >10,000 reps. But first useful reflexes appear at 500 reps.
