How to react fast to an attack?
Useful self-defense reaction time is 150-350 ms. Human record (brain alone) is 100 ms. The gap between beginner and trained: beginner thinks (cortex, 500ms+), trained acts (cerebellum, 150ms).
Why it happens — the mechanism
The cortical pathway (think → decide → act) takes 500-800ms. The reflex pathway (cerebellum → direct action) takes 150-250ms. Only repetition (>1000 times) moves a response from cortical to reflex.
How the Avikzar System answers it
Yehouda teaches 12 short reflexes — each repeated >2000 times over 6 months. By the end, the student has 12 'buttons' wired straight into the cerebellum, firing in 150ms without thinking.
Yehouda Avikzar (10th Dan) — Freezing isn't your fault — it's your biology. But not training after experiencing one is your responsibility.
Frequently asked questions
