Crowd panic movement: survival
In crowd panic (>50 people), death comes from chest compression (standing asphyxia) or trampling. Tactic: move DIAGONALLY relative to the flow, never against. Keep arms crossed in front of chest to preserve breathing space.
Step-by-step tactic
- 1Cross arms in front of chest (boxer style).
- 2Move diagonally to the flow via micro side steps.
- 3Never back against the flow — fatal fall risk.
- 4Aim for a wall, a pole — solid support to stabilize.
- 5If fallen: fetal position, protect the head.
Eli & Yehouda Avikzar method — Facing many: never head-on. Identify the weak link, create a breach, flee. Survival isn't victory — it's the exit.
Legal framework
Event organizers (concerts, festivals, rallies) are responsible for crowd safety. On failure, France article 223-1 (endangerment) can be invoked.
