Why do I freeze when yelled at?

Freezing in front of yelling is a freeze response triggered by 'non-physical but threatening' evaluation. Particularly strong in people who experienced intense parental or authoritarian yelling in childhood.

Yelling activates the amygdala without physical contact. The brain doesn't tell 'yell = real danger' from 'yell = stress'. Same freeze response. The more yelling experienced in childhood, the lower the threshold (sensitization).
